As “Orange is the New Black,” readies for the debut of season three this summer, it will have a bit of momentum behind it, given its win at the Screen Actors Guild 21st annual awards show last night.

The Netflix show, which is based on the 2010 best-selling memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman, was inspired by her 13-month imprisonment in Danbury Federal Correctional Institution — a sentence she faced after being indicted for trafficking drug money for her then lover, an international drug smuggler named Nora.

Among its cast members is Germar Terrell Gardner, who plays a prison guard on the show. On Sunday evening, the Bridgeport native was on stage with the rest of the large cast to celebrate the win over the other nominees, including the comedy series “The Big Bang Theory,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Modern Family” and “Veep.”

A graduate of Central High School and Delaware State University, he also has had appearances on “Louie” and “Hostages.”

Gardner, who lives in Bridgeport, took a few photos himself to document the evening.

Some may have caught his local work, including a turn a regional theater in 2011.
